The PEOPLE program influences public policy and legislation by involving AFSCME members in four related activities:
1) Registering AFSCME members to vote,
Educating members on 2) issues and 3) candidates' records.
4) Lobbying elected officials.
“PEOPLE” stands for Public Employees Organized to Promote Legislative Equality. As workers in public service, we know what a critical difference it makes when we elect leaders who have our back when it comes to voting on our values and priorities.
The People program is the political arm of our Union. We work to get candidates elected that support our cause. We work as a group to evaluating candidates qualifications and background to determine if they are a good fit for a job. We endorse them, and help get them elected by working on their campaign. The People Program also donates money to candidates through your voluntary contributions.
